Lexmark X548dte joins printers such every bit the Brother MFC-9970CDW ($700 street, iv stars ) that also choose touch-screen convenience to desktop color Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation MFPs. However, inwards the X548dte's price, unopen to other obvious comparing unremarkably is to floor-standing MFPs together with copiers. It mightiness survive the greater appropriate i also, offered the Lexmark X548dte's internal difficult drive together with a relatively long collection of features that depend upon the drive.
The difficult drive lets the printer shop large levels of data, thus it may, for instance, re-create pages to booklet format. Choose the booklet option, together with also the printer volition temporarily shop the scanned pages upon the drive, thus rearrange them together with impress 2 scanned pages on each side of the printed page. Fold the final copied document inwards two, together with y'all may read through it every bit a book, using the pages inwards the ideal order.
The printer also takes payoff from the difficult drive for the assortment of additional features, including secure printing (which stores impress jobs upon the drive until y'all larn inwards a PIN inwards the printer ) together with letting y'all preview each page upon the front end panel's concealment when scanning to transmit email.
Also greatly worth lift could survive that the printer offers the type of safety features you'd await on the floor-standing model, amongst disk encryption together with both manual together with scheduled disk wipes. With of those capabilities (and much to a greater extent than ) every bit good every bit the 7-inch behave upon screen, the Lexmark X548dte offers a lot of the features of the sophisticated floor-standing MFP within a desktop-size package.
Functions, Features, together with Paper Handling
When i thinks of methods, the X548dte delivers all the things y'all would await given past times a high-end desktop MFP, otherwise more. It may print, scan, together with fax over a network ; piece of work similar a standalone fax machine, copier, together with e-mail sender ; scan for an FTP site along amongst to unopen to PC ; together with impress from or scan to unopen to USB key.
The scanner offers a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF ) to supplement the letter-size flatbed for stacks of pages every bit good every bit for legal-size pages. Note also the ADF duplexes, scanning i side afterward which turning the page over to scan unopen to other side. The mixture of duplex scanning together with duplex printing way the X548dte volition permit y'all re-create both simplex (one sided ) together with duplex (two sided ) originals within your alternative of simplex or duplex copies, including the booklet format I receive got already discussed.
The printer also scores reasonably good inwards writing handling, having a 250-sheet tray, a 550-sheet tray, a 100 canvas multipurpose tray, together with also a 1-page manual feed standard. The 900-page capacity ought to survive plenty for many medium-size offices together with workgroups, but if y'all desire more, y'all are able to add together unopen to other 550-sheet tray ($199 at nowadays ) for whatever full 1, 450-sheet input capacity.
Setup together with Speed
For my tests, I connected the X548dte to unopen to wired network together with installed the driver along amongst other software on the Windows Vista system. The only existent difficult elements of setting it upward are finding a spot for it together with moving it into place. It measures 23. v past times 17. three past times 23. v inches (HWD ), which causes it to survive sufficiently little to placed on a desk, but large plenty thus it is best fitted to a tabular array or desk that no one's using. It is also heavy enough, at 70. half dozen pounds, thus picking it upward is best treated similar a two-person job. Once laid up, however, setup is measure fare.
Speed is actually a potent point. Lexmark rates the printer amongst a relatively small-scale 25 pages per infinitesimal (ppm ) for both mono together with color—which is roughly the speed y'all ought to run across for uncomplicated text files amongst no graphics or photos. On our tests, however, it was eventually faster than printers amongst higher speed ratings.
Timed the Lexmark X548dte on our occupation organisation applications suite, (using QualityLogic's hardware together with software for timing ), at an efficient 7. 0 ppm, slightly faster (although non significantly faster ) compared to the thirty ppm Brother MFC-9970CDW, at 6. half dozen ppm. Actually, the X548dte is that the fastest color Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation MFP nosotros receive got tested. Aside coming from the Brother printer, the only existent others that came close it volition survive the Editors' Choice Canon Color ImageClass MF8350Cdn ($699 direct, iv stars ) together with also the Xerox Phaser 8560MFP / D ($2, 000 street, iv stars ), which both came inwards at 6. three ppm.
Output Quality
Output lineament is yet unopen to other potent betoken overall, cheers primarily to far improve than par graphics together with photograph quality. Text lineament is but par for whatever color Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation MFP, falling inwards roughly the middle of the relatively tight gain to the breed. That volition larn far ideal for nearly whatever withdraw inwards withdraw of high-quality desktop publishing.
Graphics output is superb for whatever color Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation MFP. It is easily proficient plenty for marketing materials similar one-page handouts or mailers, or for output visiting of import clients or customers. Photos are similarly proficient plenty for marketing materials together with finest described every bit close photograph quality. Frame most the strategies behind glass, together with y'all tin easily fault them for truthful photograph lineament if y'all don‘t receive got a unopen look.
Lexmark X548dte does non receive got whatever actual flaws. It may survive overnice when the text were slightly better, but it is greater than proficient plenty for virtually whatever occupation organisation need, together with also the graphics together with photos are much higher lineament than most color Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation MFPs tin manage. Beyond that, the residue of output quality, speed, MFP functions, together with features number inwards the Lexmark X548dte good worth the value if y'all desire this grade of capability, together with that they displace it to survive a standout fifty-fifty amid Editors' Choice printers.
